“Extraordinary range of musical theatre talents”: #ZoologicalSociety

Northampton’s Royal and Derngate is to release a concept album for a new digital musical called #ZoologicalSociety.

The album features a host of musical theatre performers including Natasha Barnes, Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clark, Arthur Darvill, Louise Dearman, Tyrone Huntley, Lucie Jones, Jason Manford, Trevor Dion Nicholas and Vikki Stone. Writers are Stone and Katie Mulgrew.

The album will be released on Friday 27 March. It was due to be accompanied by a live concert performance at BEAM 2020, the British musical theatre showcase—but Royal and Derngate has called that off because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The venue’s artistic director James Dacre said, “Vikki Stone and Katie Mulgrew have collaborated with an extraordinary range of musical theatre talents in creating their outrageous new musical #ZoologicalSociety, which will reveal the innermost thoughts of a troupe of loveable zoo animals both onstage and online.

“From gossiping giraffes and depressed monkeys to a penguin nervous about becoming a single mother and two pandas feeling the pressure to procreate, this new musical comedy is definitely for grown-ups only!”

The album will be available to stream or download from all leading streaming services including Spotify, Amazon and Apple as well as the Royal and Derngate web site.
