Nottingham Playhouse’s online play Bubble by Nottinghamshire writer James Graham has been nominated for a BroadwayWorld award in a new category: best new production created for streaming.

Streamed in autumn 2020 as part of the theatre’s Unlocked Festival, Bubble was also part of the theatre’s Spring Loaded Festival in 2021. Both featured a programme of digital and live, socially distanced, work which provided employment for freelance theatre-makers.

Bubble featured Pearl Mackie and Jessica Raine. Their characters faced a decision during lockdown whether to isolate together or quarantine apart. The play followed two alternative versions of the couple’s future as they navigated a strange reality together and apart.

Nottingham Playhouse chief executive Stephanie Sirr said, “we were thrilled that our associate James Graham found time to write us this wonderful play and so pleased at its well-deserved nomination for a BroadwayWorld award.

“It’s a powerful and resonant record of an extraordinary time and we look forward to seeing it produced for many years to come.”

The public can cast their votes for the awards at the BroadwayWorld web site.
