“Magical story”: The Little Mermaid

Nottingham Playhouse is looking for a director, writer and composer for its 2025 festive show for young children The Little Mermaid.

The theatre wants creatives from the Midlands to come up with an original stage play for children aged three to eight. The 50-minute show will be performed in the Neville Studio and will then tour schools, libraries and community settings.

Nottingham Playhouse artistic director Adam Penford commented, “recruiting the director, writer and composer for The Little Mermaid via an open callout gives local theatremakers the opportunity to introduce Nottingham Playhouse to their work or build on an existing relationship.

“We’ve been recruiting via open submission for five years now and have read and listened to hundreds of applications. Each year we’re blown away by the level of creativity and the panel debates long and hard. We're looking forward to seeing how artists respond to the magical story of The Little Mermaid.”

The closing date for applications for director is Monday 20 January and for writer and composer it is Monday 3 February. Further information is available at the Nottingham Playhouse web site
