Touched by Stephen Lowe featuring Vicky McClure
Frank Galati adapts John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath

The adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, a global smash hit rock opera and a landmark British comedy are among the highlights of the spring and summer 2017 season at Nottingham Playhouse.

As previously announced, the season begins with the 40th anniversary production of Stephen Lowe’s Touched featuring Nottingham actors Vicky McClure and Aishling Loftus. It runs from 17 February until 4 March.

Frank Galati’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Grapes of Wrath will be a co-production with Southampton’s Nuffield, Northampton’s Royal and Derngate and West Yorkshire Playhouse.

The Grapes of Wrath is an epic story of unity, community and survival against the odds during the Great Depression. It runs at Nottingham Playhouse from 28 March until 8 April.

Rock opera Tommy by The Who will be a touring production made in association with Ramps on the Moon, a consortium of seven theatres which “aims to achieve a step change in the employment and artistic opportunities for disabled performers and creative teams”. Nottingham Playhouse hosts Tommy from 19 until 29 April.

Nottingham Playhouse and Northern Stage will get together for a new production of Ayub Khan-Din’s 1996 comedy East Is East from 25 May until 10 June.

Bruce Gutherie’s new production of the rock musical Rent celebrates the 20th anniversary of the show and visits the Playhouse from 16 until 20 May.
