The National Theatre of Scotland will revive the Five Minute Theatre one-day festival that it originally created as part of its fifth birthday celebrations last year.
On 21 June last year, the Five Minute Theatre saw 207 performances over 24 hours performed to a live online audience of 6,300 people and the recordings have been viewed since a further 33,000 times over the web.
This year, the event will take place online and at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow on 1 May, and the submission process is now open. There are no requirements regarding experience, qualifications or geography. The deadline for submissions is 5PM on 16 March and successful applicants will be announced on 30 March.
There are three ways to take part on the day: by sending a pre-recorded performance in front of an audience in advance; in front of a roving TV crew in a Scottish venue equipped technically to handle them; or by taking your performance and audience to the Tron.
The producer of Five Minute Theatre Marianne Maxwell said, "Five Minute Theatre in June 2011 was a joyous celebration of theatre in all its many forms. Inspired by the imagination and creativity of that first event, we are excited to develop and expand what Five Minute Theatre can be for performers, theatre-makers and audiences."
