Iphigenia at Preston Continental

Next Thursday sees the oldest play by a woman performed by the North West's new all-female classical theatre company, at The Continental’s theatre space in Preston. Iphigenia tells the story of the fallout following Paris’s kidnapping of Helen. The Rose Company was formed in 2013 with the aim of making classical texts into theatre and to showcase North West actresses.

A new one-woman suffragette musical telling the story of Annie Wilde, a Lancashire mill-girl, opens its UK tour at The Lowry in Salford next Thursday. Written by ex-Chumbawamba guitarist and writer Boff Whalley, and directed by Justin Audibert, Wrong’Un is a one-woman musical performed by Ella Harris.

The Loves of Others, by Alexandra Keelan, at Manchester’s Three Minute Theatre Wednesday to Friday is a dark comedy about romance, pretence, aspirations and love, all seen through the eyes of three 30-something couples. This is the full-length version of a preview given as part of the venue’s new writing development programme in August, when it was described as a modern-day Abigail's Party.

The Kings Arms Theatre in Salford is currently staging Play For Free, a showcase that offers a spotlight to a range of productions from up-and-coming Greater Manchester theatre companies. Heavyweight names and seasoned Manchester Fringe veterans rub shoulders with the best in upcoming talent in this testing ground for brand-new work.
