Birmingham Hippodrome chief executive Stuart Griffiths has been awarded an OBE in the new year honours list for service to the arts in the city.
Griffiths became chief executive in 2002. He introduced a programme featuring some of the finest companies in the world to complement the residency of Birmingham Royal Ballet. The venue now has an annual audience of about 500,000.
He said, “it’s a great honour to be recognised in this way. It’s really a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the whole team here at Birmingham Hippodrome, where we present the best live performances from around the world.”
He is also co-artistic director of International Dance Festival Birmingham, a Midlands area council member of Arts Council England, a board member of Birmingham Opera Company and co-chair of Dance Consortium, an alliance of 20 UK theatres dedicated to the presentation of international dance.
