Bolton Octagon development proposal

The Octagon Theatre in Bolton has released architects’ images of what a re-developed Octagon could look like if funding were secured to improve and develop the existing building.

Over the last few months, the venue has worked with an architectural team drawn from two practices, Austin Smith Lord and Helm Architecture, along with specialist theatre consultants, to look at various options for re-developing the building. The brief for the architects was to find a way of modernising the building, and if possible, enlarging it to better accommodate all of the on- and off-stage theatre projects whilst maintaining the unique characteristics of the Octagon.

Last year the Octagon was able to modernise and improve customer facilities with support from Arts Council England, Bolton Council, fundraising events, and other donors.

Future plans to develop the Octagon through an additional capital project would be motivated by a desire to safeguard the venue.
