She's on Toast

North east theatre company Cloud 9 is to première a new absurdist play, She's on Toast, in the Low Lights, a pub in North Shields.

Written by Peter Mortimer, She's on Toast is said to open with "the longest and most colourful exchange of insults ever heard on a theatre stage." Before long, one character is forced to recite a speech in Latin, while another finds the plot cannot advance further until he can answer the question, "What is the opposite of string?"

The cast is Dylan Mortimer, Robbie Lee Hurst and Christina Dawson and the play is directed by Neil Armstrong.

This will be the company's seventh production at the tiny venue on the Fish Quay.

"Past shows have been so popular," Mortimer said, "that we're now doing six performances, at 6PM and 8PM.

"At the earlier show, members of the audience will enjoy a bowl of homemade soup and a roll, and the later show will be preceded by a performance by local musicians, who will be different every night."

The show runs from 4 to 6 March and tickets, priced at £6.50, can be booked by phoning 0191 257 6038 or online at www.cloudninetheatre.co.uk. The venue only holds 40 people so advance booking, says Mortimer, is essential.
