Michael Pennington who will revive Sweet William at the RSC in Stratford

Michael Pennington is to present his solo show about Shakespeare, Sweet William, for one night only in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre at Stratford.

Pennington says of his project, “Sweet William—which I've been touring through the UK, Europe and the US for a few years now—isn’t just a daisy chain of Shakespeare's greatest hits but his biography mixed up with mine, with performances of many unfamiliar pieces, Prince Mamillius, Pericles and Queen Margaret as well as the justly famous ones: Richard III, Hamlet and Cleopatra.

“Ever since Macbeth knocked my socks off when I was 11, I've been around the block with him many times, from Buckingham Palace to Her Majesty's prisons, from the British Academy to dodging the rats falling from the rafters in Mumbai.”

Sweet William is in the Swan Theatre on Sunday 20 October. Pennington is also playing John of Gaunt in Richard II in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre which plays from 10 October until 16 November before transferring to the Barbican in London.
