Warwick-based Playbox Theatre has revealed details of the first part of its 30th anniversary year, the highlight of which will be Games + Thrones—a reworking of the three parts of Shakespeare’s Henry VI.

Playbox, founded by Mary King in 1986, develops theatre for and with young people at its home, The Dream Factory.

Playbox and its Shakespeare Young Company will be collaborating on Games + Thrones which will be staged at St Mary’s Church, Warwick as well as at The Dream Factory. A cast of more than 50 young actors will be involved in the production which opens on Saturday 23 April.

There will also be a site-specific, day-long drama with the working title Shakespeare’s Darkest Nature which will be staged in Welcombe Hills, Stratford. It will explore the playwright’s lifelong relationship with countryside settings.

Other highlights of the programme from January until May include Starry Nights, an annual restaging of extracts from the company’s stage history, on Thursday 18 February and a show for young children, Teeny Tiny and the Witch Woman, inspired by the stories of Barbara K Walker, which opens on Saturday 5 March.
