"Unmissable opportunity": Jack and the Beanstalk

Nottingham Playhouse is on the lookout for a professional writer to create its annual festive family show.

The 2020 production will be Jack and the Beanstalk which will be aimed at younger children. It will be performed in the Neville Studio and will tour to primary schools.

The Playhouse is looking for a professional writer with an East Midlands connection to craft the play and bring the story to life. The deadline for submissions is Friday 8 May at 12PM.

Nottingham Playhouse producer Jake Orr said, “the chance to develop professionally and reinvent a classic tale for our stage makes this an unmissable opportunity and excellent addition to a playwright's CV.”

The 2020 winner was Sarah Middleton from Derby. Her version of Pinocchio was her first professionally produced play.

She said, “writing Pinocchio was a wonderful experience. I felt really supported by the Playhouse and learnt so much. The whole team was brilliant, and it was really exciting to be working with other creatives from the East Midlands.

“The writer of Jack and the Beanstalk will have a great time. It’s hard work getting the script just right but hugely rewarding seeing your work performed for young audiences who respond so immediately, honestly and sometimes hilariously!"

Jack and the Beanstalk will run from Wednesday 9 December until Saturday 2 January 2021.

Further information about how to apply is available at the Nottingham Playhouse web site.
