Derby Theatre is to hold a night of political plays which will also be performed simultaneously across the world as part of the Theatre Uncut project.
Theatre Uncut was established in 2010 and allows new plays to be performed rights-free. The aim is to encourage debate and urge action surrounding social issues through theatre.
Derby Theatre has donated space and resources to a team of young people in Derby who will put on the plays written by leading playwrights.
James Varney, who is producing and directing the project for Derby Theatre, said, “these plays are really powerful. They’re direct responses to things we see in the news. They’re for everyone. They’re alive, some are funny, they’re political statements and prove that theatre is a device for change. We’re part of something internationally huge, and that’s really exciting.”
Over the past three years Theatre Uncut plays have been performed by more than 6,000 people in 19 countries across four continents.
Theatre Uncut will be held at Derby Theatre on Saturday 13 December at 7:30PM. The event is free but suggested donations of £4 will go to human rights charity Amnesty International.
Seats can be reserved by calling the box office on 01332 593939 or at the Derby Theatre web site.
