Newcastle’s Live Theatre is to produce and tour a play by a 12 year old girl.

Written by 12 year Chelsey Cleminson from Excelsior Academy, Michaela’s Mistake was originally developed as part of Live Theatre’s Write Stuff project which gives a voice to young teenage writers. The play was first performed in the Studio at Live Theatre and later performed in the main house as part of I’m Just Saying… as part of Juice Festival in October 2012.

Michaela makes the same mistake any lonely, insecure school girl might make. For the first time in her life a beautiful young lad with abs and a suntan fancies her. But Facebook isn't real life is it?

Michaela’s Mistake shows how easily an alternative world can be created over the internet and how quickly that world can come tumbling down.

The play stars professional actor and former youth theatre member, Natalie Ann Jamieson.

Paul James, Director of Education and Participation at Live Theatre said, “The content is relevant and pertinent to young people’s lives and will support work already going on in schools around online protection.”

Max Roberts, Artistic Director, Live Theatre, added, “Michaela's Mistake is a compelling and prescient play superbly written, performed and directed. It's a 'must see' believe me.”

Michaela’s Mistake is at Live Theatre at 7.30pm on Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 April and will tour to secondary schools across the North East in April and May with an accompanying workshop.
