Of Mice and Men

The Octagon in Bolton is looking for dog owners who would like their canine companion to star in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.

Auditions will be taking place on Wednesday and Thursday November 28-29.

Octagon artistic director, and director of Of Mice and Men, David Thacker, explains: “The dog in Of Mice and Men is much-loved by his owner Candy, both the dog and Candy are in their later years and there is a real bond between the two characters.

"The dog that we are looking for needs to have a very steady disposition, and may well be an older dog whose years of life experience will count in his or her favour! The dog we are casting is described in the text as ‘A dragfooted sheepdog, gray of muzzle, and with pale, blind old eyes’.

"The actual breed of the dog is something that we are happy to be flexible on, our main priority is getting the right dog for the role.”
