A week-long celebration of the best in LGBT art and culture is at the heart of Queer Contact in Manchester from February 4 to 9, 2013.
Over six days, audiences can enjoy comedy from Paul Sinha and Tom Allen; spoken word from Dean Atta; a unique Vogue exhibition battle between The House of Ninja (live from New York) and The House of Suarez (on stage in Manchester); internationally renowned drag fabulist Lypsinka; and a special live band concert from cabaret artists Bourgeois & Maurice—plus much more.
Female artists feature throughout the festival week and include comedians Debra-Jane Appleby and Heena Patel; poets Anna Freeman and Jasmine Cooray; new work-in-progress theatre from Debs Gatenby, Cheryl Martin and Sarah Evans (Art With Heart); and a photographic celebration of UK lesbian & bisexual women from Rachel Adams.
Supporting this year’s performance programme will be three exhibitions: The Modern Lesbian, Tranchester and Blank Media Collective; as well as a number of workshop and open mic opportunities for new and emerging artists to get a taste of performing alongside more established acts.
Barry Priest, Queer Contact producer says: “Queer Contact continues to grow from strength to strength each year, and with more events than ever at some of the lowest prices in town!”
