I Was A Rat!

Philip Pullman’s classic children’s novel I Was A Rat! has been adapted for the stage for the first time in the UK and opens at The Lowry from May 7-11.

Full of music, comedy and physical performances, this story will surprise audiences of all ages as it slowly reveals its connection to one of the most famous fairy tales of all time.

It follows the adventures of Roger; a scruffy page boy who turns up one evening on the doorstep of old married couple Bob and Joan.

Leading an ensemble cast is Fox Jackson-Keen, who made his debut on the professional stage in 2008 at the age of 13 in the lead role of Billy Elliot the Musical.

I Was A Rat! has been adapted for the stage by Teresa Ludovico, artistic director of Teatro Kismet in Bari, Southern Italy. She is best known in the UK for her visual and physical productions of Beauty and the Beast, The Snow Queen and The Mermaid Princess.
