Birmingham Stage Company has revealed that its current Christmas show, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach, will have played to more than 40,000 people when its 12-week season at Birmingham's Old Rep Theatre ends on 2 February.

This will be a record for the Old Rep which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

The BSC's 20th anniversary year has included mounting five Christmas productions across the UK including Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain in the West End.

Actor / manager Neal Foster said, “When I started the company at the age of 26 I didn’t dream that 20 years later we would be heading off to Hong Kong and Singapore with our shows after an amazing Christmas.”

After its run in Birmingham, James and the Giant Peach goes on an eight-month tour starting at Cardiff New Theatre on 12 February.
