The Emerging Perspectives programme

A group of 12 east Midlands theatre-makers and writers in the early stage of their careers are to tour four new short plays to five venues.

East Midlands rural touring theatre company New Perspectives is behind the Emerging Perspectives Company tour of Behind Closed Doors.

Theresa Keogh, dramaturg William Drew and New Perspectives artistic director Jack McNamara have led the company through a ten-month programme of workshops and master classes.

McNamara said, “This company of talented actors and writers have been working together over the best part of a year, developing a true sense of ensemble.

“The result of our current company's work is Behind Closed Doors, a mosaic of four short plays reflecting the passions and concerns of an exciting generation of new artists from this region.”

The four EP writers are Emily Holyoake from Derby, Rob Wileman who lives in Chesterfield, Newark-based Kelly Poucher and Rob Turnock who lives in Nottingham.

They are joined by performers John Tissiman, who is currently studying at Northampton University, Mia Johnson from St Ann’s in Nottingham and Louise White and Caitlin Drabble who are also from Nottingham.

Assistant director Charlotte Bond is from Leicester. Nottingham-based actor Lee Rufford will join the cast on tour.

Director of Behind Closed Doors is Theresa Keogh who worked with New Perspectives on a ten-month attachment as trainee director. Designer is Emma Pegg, a participant in last year’s programme.

The EP Company will take Behind Closed Doors to Manton Village Hall, Rutland on Tuesday 1 July, the Guildhall Theatre, Derby on Wednesday 2 July, Create Theatre, Mansfield on Thursday 3 July, Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham on Friday 4 July and Thurgarton Village Hall, Nottinghamshire on Saturday 5 July.
