Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre is to offer a limited window for the submission of new, unsolicited scripts to its literary department.

Scripts can be submitted between 20 August and 17 September 2012 and will be read, anonymously, by the theatre's own team of trained readers who will also provide feedback to the writers.

The process is similar to the entry for the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, which is hosted by the Royal Exchange every two years. The guidelines say that the theatre is looking for "work that is surprising, challenging, engaging, relevant and ambitious enough in character, story, form, structure and theatricality to fill our unique spaces and communicate with our audiences".

The Exchange is not only looking for scripts that it can produce in its two theatre spaces, but also for "playwrights who we believe have the skill and ambition to rise to the challenge of writing for our theatres and with whom we can create a long-term supportive relationship".

Further information on requirements and submission guidelines are available on the Royal Exchange Theatre web site.
