David Tennant as Richard II

The first cinema screening of a Royal Shakespeare Company production at The Dukes in Lancaster on November 20 has proved so popular it’s sold out.

But fans of the Bard—and David Tennant—need not despair as there’s another chance to see Richard II broadcast from Stratford-upon-Avon on December 1, though tickets for this screening are selling fast too.

Tennant has been receiving rave reviews for his role as the monarch whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war.

The RSC is following in the footsteps of the National Theatre, which has been beaming productions live into cinemas across the globe since 2009.

Tickets are now also on sale for Henry IV Part 1 starring Antony Sher as Falstaff, Jasper Britton as Henry IV and Alex Hassell as Prince Hal on May 14 and Henry IV Part II on June 18.
