The Christmas Truce plays in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from November

The Royal Shakespeare Company is inviting the public to share stories of their families’ involvement in World War I which will be incorporated into a new play.

The company is staging The Christmas Truce as part of the 100th anniversary of the start of the war.

The play, which is being written by Phil Porter, will draw on true stories of soldiers in the Warwickshire Regiment.

On Saturday 8 March between 10AM and 3PM, the company is inviting people to a drop-in event, Sharing Stories of The Great War, at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford. Those attending are being encouraged to take photos, letters or any other items to illustrate their stories.

Phil Porter and RSC deputy artistic director Erica Whyman are keen to enrich their understanding of Warwickshire and the surrounding area’s connection to the war.

Erica Whyman says, “Phil is currently in the middle of writing the play. We can’t promise that people’s stories will make their way into the play, but they’ll certainly help us in shaping it.”
