Avonbank Gardens where most of the activities will take place

The Royal Shakespeare Company will celebrate Midsummer in Stratford with A Midsummer Sundae, a day for all the family with free activities including performances, live music, theatre workshops and skills demonstrations.

A Midsummer Sundae will be on Sunday 22 June and most of the activities will take place in Avonbank Gardens opposite The Other Place at the Courtyard Theatre.

One of the highlights will be Sonnets for You in which anyone can choose one of Shakespeare’s sonnets and an RSC actor will be on hand to give a personalised rendition. This takes place between 1:30 and 3:30PM.

Throughout the day there will be live music, performances of Shakespeare’s works and theatre demonstrations on The Dell main stage.

London Youth Gospel Choir will present Shakespeare’s texts through gospel music while full-sized djembe drums will fuse the words and sounds of Shakespeare in the Shakespeare Rhythms Drumming Performance.

Stage-fighting director Tom Jordan will demonstrate how to pull a punch and anyone eager to write should be able to find inspiration in The Writers’ Hut.

Throughout the day in the foyer of The Other Place at the Courtyard Theatre, there will be an exhibition exploring the work of former RSC associate director Buzz Goodbody. She was instrumental in establishing The Other Place as an alternative venue.
