A production on The Dell

The Royal Shakespeare Company is offering amateur and semi-professional theatre groups the opportunity to put on a play by Shakespeare or his contemporaries in Stratford this summer.

For the eighth year the RSC will make available its open-air performance space The Dell on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 June until 1 September.

Last summer more than 6,500 people watched 40 performances by 32 theatre companies, schools, universities and community groups.

The Dell co-ordinator Nicola Salmon said, “The Dell offers amateur and semi-professional theatre companies the chance to perform at and work with the RSC.

“In addition to providing a stage we also hope to offer different opportunities for companies to promote their performances and to supply skills training with our professional artists.

“Last year’s season in The Dell was a huge success and included companies from Liverpool to Texas. There was a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet called Sweet Division and a production of Much Ado About Nothing brought up to date as the troops came back from Afghanistan. I hope we’ll be able to reflect this diversity again in 2013.”

There will be two performance slots a day, although the exact time of each performance may vary.

Anyone interested in performing at The Dell should submit an application form which can be downloaded from the RSC’s web site or from Nicola Salmon at [email protected].

The closing date for applications is Monday 25 March.
