RSC’s Cowbois to transfer to Royal Court

Charlie Josephine’s “rollicking queer western” Cowbois is to transfer to London, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal Court Theatre have announced.

The full RSC cast will reprise their roles in the play which is directed by Josephine and Sean Holmes who said, “we’re thrilled to be bringing Cowbois to the Royal Court. We’ve had the best time making it at the RSC and are very grateful to the team for the joyful collaboration.

“Thank you also to the warm audiences in Stratford who’ve received it with open hearts and standing ovations. We’re really proud of this beautiful bunch of outlaws and excited to bring them to London.”

The cast comprises Bridgette Amofah (Mary), Lee Braithwaite (Lucy / Lou), Shaun Dingwall (Frank / Tommy), Michael Elcock (George), Colm Gormley (John), Vinnie Heaven (Jack), Paul Hunter (Sheriff Roger Jones), Lucy McCormick (Jayne), Sophie Melville (Miss Lillian), Julian Moore-Cook (James), Emma Pallant (Sally-Ann) and L J Parkinson (Charley Parkhurst).

The creative team includes designer Grace Smart, Simeon Miller (lighting), Jim Fortune (music), Mwen (sound and soundscape), Jennifer Jackson (movement), Bethan Clark (fights and intimacy), Rebecca Latham (dramaturg), Martin Poile (casting) and Charlie Metcalf (children’s casting).

Cowbois will run at the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from Thursday 11 January until Saturday 10 February 2024.
