The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced the full cast for its production of the Bard’s bloodiest tragedy, Titus Andronicus, which will play in the Swan Theatre, Stratford.
As previously announced, Simon Russell Beale will take the lead role. Natey Jones, who played Casey in Frank Galati’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath at the National Theatre in 2024, will play Aaron in Titus Andronicus.
RSC associate artist Emma Fielding will return to the company as Marcia Andronicus. Apart from her roles with the RSC, she appeared in Noël Coward’s Suite In Three Keys at the Orange Tree Theatre in 2024.
Letty Thomas, who made her RSC debut as Rosalind in the 2024 production of As You Like It at the Holloway Garden Theatre in Stratford, will return as Olivia in Titus Andronicus.
The rest of the company comprises Jeremy Ang Jones (Demetrius), Marlowe Chan-Reeves (Chiron), Danny Collins (Martius and messenger), Ned Costello (Bassianus and Publius), Joshua James (Saturninus), Thomas Josling (Quintus and Aemilius), Wendy Kweh (Tamora), Joel MacCormack (Lucius), Jerone Marsh-Reid (Alarbus and goth) and Sharita Oomeer (nurse and goth).
Max Webster, who will make his RSC directorial debut, said, “I’ve always been fascinated, curious and horrified by Titus Andronicus. When the RSC asked me to think about this play with one of the greatest Shakespearean actors of his generation, Simon Russell Beale, it was impossible to say no.
“I think this play, one of Shakespeare’s first, is full of young man bravado and anger, and creates a howl of pain that seems to echo tragically with our modern world.”
The creative team also includes set and costume designer Joanna Scotcher, lighting designer Lee Curran, composer Matthew Herbert, sound designer Tingying Dong, movement director Jade Hackett, fight and intimacy directors Rachel Bown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown and casting director Matthew Dewsbury CDG.
Titus Andronicus will run in the Swan Theatre from Thursday 17 April until Saturday 7 June.
