Ruth Madoc as FairyGodmother in Cinderella at Mansfield Palace Theatre

Ruth Madoc is to return to Mansfield in panto—20 years after her last appearance.

In 1993 she played the principal boy in Cinderella alongside Nicholas Parsons. This year she will be playing the Fairy Godmother in the same panto.

“I love the market and the town is so friendly. I’m really looking forward to returning and seeing how the theatre has changed in that time,” she said.

Ruth Madoc has racked up an impressive list of credits since playing Gladys Pugh in the TV series Hi-De-Hi. She toured Japan and the Far East as Madame Giry in The Phantom of the Opera and has just appeared in a new stage version of the TV series Last of the Summer Wine.

Mansfield’s cultural services manager Andrew Tucker said, “We’re really excited to have such a popular and classic actress as Ruth to join us this Christmas.

“We very much hope that this year’s show will smash all previous records.”

Cinderella will run from Saturday 30 November until Sunday 5 January.
