Friends and colleagues have set up a fundraising page for Sarah Brigham, artistic director of Derby Theatre, who is suffering from a rare form of cancer.
She has a tumour over two inches long in her trachea. Only two in a million people have this type of cancer. The best option is carbon ion therapy which is not funded by the NHS.
Wellwishers who call themselves Team Brig-Aid are trying to raise £60,000 to send her to Germany for the treatment. In the first five days they have raised £40,000.
Brigham, who joined Derby Theatre in January 2013, said, “on the positive side, physically I feel okay and I remain positive. If you see me, you wouldn't know I have this tumour in my windpipe. I’m still working, still laughing, still putting the world to rights and still talking in a broad Hull accent. So cancer is not winning!”
She is aiming to start the treatment in June. Anyone who would like to donate can do so at the Just Giving web site.
Team Brig-Aid have organised an evening of music and entertainment to raise funds for Brigham. It will be held at Derby Theatre on Sunday 27 May. Tickets cost a minimum of £10 per ticket.
