Irlam Fringe Festival, in its second year, aims to celebrate the best in new writing, directing and acting in its two-day run at Irlam Men’s Catholic Club.

Founder and organiser Jane McNulty is herself a successful playwright and TV writer. The festival also proved a popular endeavour for playwrights with more than 100 submissions from all over the globe.

“I had this idea that people in Irlam and Cadishead—a place without any theatre or easy access to theatre—might actually love to see some top class short plays in their home town. When the show was a success, I knew I was onto something."

Last year’s one-night event was sold out and this year’s is already proving popular. The festival is running over two nights on August 27 and 28. It brings six new pieces of writing from local, national and international writers and includes plays about love, the business of ageing and about caring.
