Measure For Measure

Lancaster’s Demi-paradise Productions brings its acclaimed brand of indoor promenade theatre back to the historic backdrop and setting of Lancaster Castle next month.

Due to the restricted performing space—around the law courts, ancient cells, Hadrian’s Tower and Barristers Library—a strictly limited number of tickets is available and booking opens on Monday.

Established in 2000, Demi-paradise is the Castle’s resident professional theatre company, presenting regular seasonal events. It is also now ‘by royal appointment’ as it entertained the Queen when she visited the historic monument last year.

The 2016 production is Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure set in the 1950s and featuring music and song from the period. Amidst the romantic comedy, the production also promises to explore the darker side of morality and justice, sex and death.

Joyce Branagh (sister of Sir Kenneth) has cast a talented 10-strong company, currently in rehearsal in Manchester and Lancaster, and the play runs from February 25 to March 19.

The production is Demi-paradise’s 10th Shakespeare production at the castle.
