Amit Sharma is to step down from his role as deputy artistic director of Birmingham REP, although no decision has been given for his departure date.

Sharma joined the theatre in March 2019 at the same time as artistic director Sean Foley and executive director Rachael Thomas. Sharma had been associate director of Graeae Theatre Company and associate artistic director at the Royal Exchange, Manchester.

He said, "I would like to thank the incredible artists, organisations, communities and staff with whom I hold special memories. I’m sad to leave but now is the right time."

Chair of the REP Sir Howard Panter commented, “I’d like to express my gratitude to Amit for his hard work and dedication to the REP, particularly during the pandemic which has affected the whole industry. I'm sure he will go on to further success and we wish him all the best for the future”.
