Blackpool lights up the town again from Friday, with its annual Showzam festival celebrating circus, magic and new variety.

It’s the sixth festival staged by Marketing Blackpool with Professor Vanessa Toulmin from the University of Sheffield—backed by £99,000 of Arts Council cash—and returns from February 15 to 24.

More than 150 performers will tread the boards, walk the streets and dazzle audiences during the 10-day festival and the Spymonkey team behind Spookshow are promising to leave audiences aghast with hauntings, hysteria and horror!

Other events include the Wookey Hole Youth Circus; the Invisible Circus—with their specially commissioned piece, The Last Waltz; the increasingly popular Carnival Ball on February 16; Dreamtime with Romany—Diva of Magic; a variety of street performers including Musical Ruth and The Grannies, and Mr Albert’s Big Finish.

With a mix of ticketed and free events, family friendly and adult only shows, the aim is to engage and interact with the performances as well as enjoy the workshops and talks by established industry experts.
