Festival opener: Wondrous Stories by Motionhouse

Thousands of people gathered in Birmingham’s Centenary Square to see Wondrous Stories, a free outdoor show to mark the opening of the Birmingham 2022 Festival—a six-month celebration of culture that will accompany the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Wondrous Stories was created by Kevin Finnan MBE, artistic director of Leamington Spa-based dance circus company Motionhouse who was choreographer and movement director for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Raidene Carter, executive producer for the Birmingham 2022 Festival, said, “what better way to open the festival than with a massive display of dance, song, acrobatics and more.

Wondrous Stories hasn’t just brought together the creativity and talent of so many performers from across the region, it heralded the start of an incredibly exciting summer ahead for Birmingham.”

Wondrous Stories will run at 6:30 and 8:30PM until Sunday 20 March.
