Ted Hughes’s 1977 poetic novel Gaudete is to be explored on stage for the first time since the 1980s in a physical theatre staging by international ensemble OBRA, touring Northern England March 14 to 24.

The life of a Yorkshire village is shattered when spirits replace the parish priest with his double. Alternative realities collide as this changeling interprets the gospel of love in his own fashion.

OBRA interweaves physicality with a soundscape that includes junkyard percussion to bring Hughes’s language to life. It’s suitable for ages 16+.
