The Regent Academy of Performing Arts in Stoke is opening its doors to new members as it looks to cast for two new shows.

The academy has invited two new practitioners, Emma Hill and Simon Quinn, to work with the young people on shows which will be performed in July.

Emma Hill’s recent work includes projects with Huddersfield’s Laurence Batley Theatre which is looking at the world of selfies. Simon Quinn, of Fired-up Theatre company based in Walsall, will be working with a second group on an as-yet unnamed piece.

The Regent’s dance academy will premiere a piece at this year’s 014 Dance event called Lest We Forget, a celebration, reflection and remembrance of those who fought during the Great War and honouring those who have given their lives in more recent conflicts. It will be staged at the Regent Theatre, Stoke from 12 until 15 February.

The Regent’s dance artist in residence, Caroline Sherratt, said, “We’re almost at capacity for the dance academy but always welcome new members.

“There are some great opportunities ahead for our members with two new projects on the horizon and more to follow.”

Another new scheme on which the academy is working starts in April. It will look at piloting a 12-week project which will help and support adults aged 17 or above to develop their CVs and perform audition speeches.

Academy co-ordinator Julia Barton said, “It’s always been the wish of the Regent Academy to be a bridge between formal education and drama school.

“We’ll be offering a series of small shows that a select group of individuals can be involved in and while performing one show they’ll be rehearsing a second, marketing and promoting a third and possibly discussing a fourth, all in the space of ten weeks.”

All sessions take place at the Victoria Hall, Stoke. For further details, contact [email protected].
