The Guild of Cheesemakers

Bristol-based theatre makers Stand + Stare takes its Edinburgh Fringe sell-out show, The Guild of Cheesemakers, to Stratford this week.

Directed by Emma Callander, The Guild of Cheesemakers is described as “a cheese- and wine-tasting evening with a fictional narrative”.

It is set on the evening of The Guild of Cheesemakers’ annual tasting. A panel of culinary experts has gathered to guide the guests of the Guild on a gastronomic journey.

Amongst the products on offer is a cheese like no other which some people believe has mystical powers: the mysterious 198th cheese in The Book of Curds.

Gradually its secrets are uncovered, leading all who sample it to question the essence of life and to make a collective decision that could alter humanity forever.

The Guild of Cheesemakers incorporates “an excellent assortment of cheeses from leading cheesemonger Paxton and Whitfield, wonderful wine and artisan breads, a panel of experts, a multi-talented cast and a debate-provoking story that gets right to the heart of what it means to age and be human”.

The Guild of Cheesemakers will be performed in the Swan Room of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from Tuesday until Saturday (11 to 15 December).
