The Royal Shakespeare Company is to stage an evening celebrating music from productions directed by Michael Boyd both during his tenure as the RSC’s artistic director and before he took up the role.

Swan Song will include RSC musicians and actor Forbes Masson performing extracts from some of Boyd’s productions including Much Ado About Nothing, The Histories and Boris Godunov.

The evening will also feature the world première of Anya, a new RSC commission by composer Jonathan Girling and writer Paul Wignall.

Based on Russian folk tales such as Baba Yaga and Father Frost, it is the story of a girl who has to fight for survival against the odds.

John Woolf, RSC head of music, said, “We commission new scores for all our theatre productions, and our musicians play live at each performance.

“It’s great that music from some of Michael’s shows is getting another much-deserved airing.”

Swan Song will be held in the Swan Theatre, Stratford next Sunday (10 March).
