Birmingham REP is to host two summer schools, with those attending five-day workshops able to choose between in-person tuition in the theatre’s rehearsal rooms or online classes.

Theatre Making will be for youngsters aged between 13 and 18 and will run from 3 until 7 August. Spy School will cater for 7- to 12-year-olds from 10 until 14 August.

Each summer school will have a limited number of participants who want to attend the REP. Social distancing will be observed. Online sessions will include bespoke pre-recorded versions of physical classes plus links to downloadable documents and files.

Alex Summers, director of creative learning at the REP said, “we are over the moon to be able to get back into the REP’s rehearsal rooms and make use of our theatre once again.

“It feels right that young people from Birmingham will be some of the first to step back into the theatre space and continue creative work within our four walls. The newly created digital versions of our sessions also mean that more young people than ever can join us for these workshops.

“I’m also extremely pleased to continue our partnership with West Midlands Virtual Schools to bring our work to children and young people in care across our region.”

Places can be booked at the Birmingham REP web site.
