Theatre by the Lake’s summer season, where a company of 14 actors perform six plays in rotation from May to November, returns with work ranging from comedy for all the family in the main house to a passionate, mysterious drama by Harold Pinter in the studio.

The season begins in the main house with Rookery Nook by Ben Travers.

This is followed by an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic vampire novel Dracula, by Scottish poet Liz Lochhead. The final main house production is Shakespeare’s shortest play, The Comedy of Errors.

There are three equally diverse plays in the studio. First up is The Winterling, a brilliantly twisted thriller from Jez Butterworth, writer of the smash hit Jerusalem.

The second is the world première of a brand new comedy by northern playwright Brendan Murray, Seeing the Lights. Terry is a nurse and full time carer for his mum. As her 75th birthday approaches, the family descends and the siblings start to bicker.

To complete the summer season, the theatre welcomes back a Pinter play—master of mystery, passion and the pregnant pause—with Old Times.

The theatre will round off the year with its most spectacular Christmas show yet: J M Barrie’s Peter Pan.

As well as Theatre by the Lake’s own shows, the rest of 2014 promises drama, music, comedy and talks from visiting companies and artists.
