The Mormons are coming!

The Book of Mormon, the musical which takes a comic look a the Mormon religion, is coming to Sunderland Empire September. It opened at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in March 2011 and then in the West End at the Prince of Wales Theatre in 2013.

Described by the BTG’s London Editor Philip Fisher in his review of the West End production in February 2013 as having “a creative team by South Park out of Avenue Q", the script, lyrics and music were written by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. Parker and Stone created South Park and Lopez co-write the music for Avenue Q. The US version gained twelve Tonys and two Drama Desk Awards in 2011, then went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album in 2011.

In 2013, the West End production won an Evening Standard Award and in 2014 won four Oliviers, along with four Whatsonstage.com Awards.

Although tickets are not yet on sale, the ticket waiting list is now open on the show’s web site.
