Opera North is to bring Wagner’s entire Der Ring des Nibelungen to the Sage in Gateshead in June and July and it’s already sold out.

These are concert performances, conducted by Opera North music director Richard Farnes and staged and designed by Peter Mumford, with minimal costumes and lighting and a triptych of screens providing subtle video projection and text:

  • 5 July at 7:30PM
    Das Rheingold
  • 6 July at 4:30PM
    Die Walküre
  • 8 July at 4:30PM
    Siegfried
  • 10 July at 3:30PM
    Götterdämmerung

On 1 July at 6PM, The Opera North Big Sing, in which children from across the North join forces to sing a newly-composed song cycle with the chorus of Opera North, comes to Hexham Abbey.

In addition, on 9 July at The Sage at a time to be confirmed, there will be a concert, Myths and Legends, of traditional folksongs from Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Estonia performed by Opera North Children’s Chorus, which is made up of children aged from 8 to 14.

Also on 9 July at 10:30AM, 11:45AM and 1:30PM, there’ll be Gold, Gods and Giants, an interactive storytelling performance for families, in Opera North’s special indoor pop-up tent at St Mary’s Heritage Centre, right next to The Sage.
