Theatre Book Prize Judges Announced

The Society for Theatre Research has announced the judges for the Theatre Book Prize for books published in 2014.

They are Christopher Morahan CBE, representing the theatrical profession, Matt Wolf, representing theatre critics, and Professor Vivien Gardner, representing academia. The judging panel will be chaired by BTG critic Howard Loxton on behalf of the Society for Theatre Research.

Christopher Morahan is a theatre, film and television director with an impressive record of work at the National Theatre (winning a Best Director Olivier for his production of Wild Honey), Chichester Festival Theatre and in the West End. He was also the director of iconic television drama such as The Jewel in the Crown and A Dance to the Music of Time.

Matt Wolf is the London theatre critic of The International New York Times (formerly The International Herald Tribune), theatre editor at the artsdesk.com and London correspondent of broadway.com.

Vivien Gardner is Emerita Professor of Theatre Studies at the University of Manchester. Her books and research have been concerned largely with women in theatre and entertainment with intriguing diversions on the eccentric theatricality of the 5th Marquis of Anglesey. As well as her interest in gender and sexuality, she is currenty working on the development of dance works that renegotiate archival performance material for the contemporary stage.

The panel will announce their shortlist for the prize at the end of February or in early March with the announcement of the winner and the presentation of the prize taking place in late April or early May.
