Booking has opened for a new season of shows at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick. From January to May there’s a wide range of productions and events, from a gardening-themed one-man play to ballet, and several festivals including the Jennings Keswick Jazz Festival and Words by the Water literary festival.

Highlights of the season include a new production from Theatre by the Lake of Old Herbaceous. Adapted from Reginald Arkell’s novel by Alfred Shaughnessy, the play charts one man’s journey from orphan boy to legendary head gardener at a Gloucestershire manor house.

It runs from March 14-23 in the Studio, with a preview on March 13.

It’s followed by a new adaptation of Hugh Walpole’s Lakeland novel Rogue Herries. This tale of unpredictable and impetuous Francis Herries is set in Borrowdale and features a host of colourful characters as well as local landmarks. It’s from March 23 to April 20.

Theatre by the Lake is again encouraging young people under 26 to experience live theatre by offering Friday £5 tickets for both Old Herbaceous and Rogue Herries.
