Brewing up: Maison Foo opens up its Tea Bar as part of the St George's Day celebrations

Three theatre companies and three junior schools are to help celebrate St George’s Day in Derby.

The annual, free event will take place on Saturday 6 April in the Market Place and at venues throughout the city centre.

Pete Meakin, creative producer of the city council’s entertainments division Derby LIVE which is organising the event, said, “The St George's Day celebrations are now a highlight of the city's cultural calendar. The impact of the celebrations is felt well beyond the day itself."

Derby theatre company Maison Foo will be opening The Tea Bar on the Market Place from 11:30AM until 1:30PM and serving up a range of teas in its inimitable style.

Another Derby organisation, Lostboys Theatre Company, will be staging a tongue-in-cheek re-telling of the story of St George and the Dragon at 12 noon.

There will be a new look at a traditional form of street theatre when Wyndham Primary Academy, Walter Evans Primary and St James junior schools perform a mummers play, including dragons, at 1:10PM.

Derby theatre company 1623 will be performing extracts from Shakespeare plays Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, The Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 2:30PM.
