Theatre Trust conference on sustainable theatres

Theatres Trust Delivering Sustainable TheatresActor Griff Rhys Jones and Baroness Hanham will be keynote speakers at a Theatres Trust conference on sustainable design, development and operation of theatre buildings taking into account environmental, economic and social issues.

There will be a look at how theatres have addressed issues of sustainability as well as rising energy costs, tougher building standards and financial constraints, plus an examination of the experiences of the 48 London theatres on the Theatres Trust's Ecovenue project.

The conference is aimed at theatre owners or managements looking at redesigning, adapting or building theatres and considering issues of sustainability, providing opportunities to speak to representatives from other theatres, arts policy makers, theatre consultants and architects.

Other speakers include ACE chairman Dame Elizabeth Forgan, Rosemary Squire of ATG, John Holden of City University London and architect Rab Bennetts OBE with sessions chaired by chief executive and artistic director of Birmingham's Mac Dorothy Wilson, director of Thinking Practice Mark Robinson and the National Theatre's chief executive Nick Starr.
