Festive Whodunit: New Perspectives will take to the rural road

Rural audiences can see “a whodunit with a funny and festive twist” as East Midlands rural touring theatre company New Perspectives tours the UK with He Wore A Red Hat by Jack McNamara.

The show will visit a variety of venues, from St Christopher's Church Hall, Sneinton, on the outskirts of Nottingham to The Old Fire Station in Carlisle.

He Wore A Red Hat features part-time detective, part-time unpublished poet Josh Rogan who is on a mission to save Christmas. Volunteer detectives are being recruited to help solve crimes in local villages. So when Josh's applications are repeatedly turned down, he decides to take sleuthing into his own hands.

He begins to piece together what he thinks is a series of Christmas-themed crimes. But just when thinks he is onto something, unexpected gifts start to arrive. It would seem he is in for a big surprise.

New Perspectives artistic director Jack McNamara created and directs the show. He said, “Christmas is traditionally a time when theatre companies haul out the classics, but we wanted to do something different, creating a new piece of writing performed by a brilliant comedian and some very unexpected characters. Our aim is to give audiences an unusual spin on the crime genre and a Christmas gift like no other.”

He wrote He Wore A Red Hat specifically for actor-comedian Gerry Howell, Nottingham-based theatre maker Mufaro Makubika and Kate Kordel.

The tour of He Wore A Red Hat runs from Thursday 12 November until Sunday 20 December. The full itinerary is on the New Perspectives web site.
