London-based Trafalgar Entertainment, new operators of the Theatre Royal Sydney, are looking forward to the official reopening of the theatre after it was completely refurbished.

One of Australia’s oldest theatrical institutions, originating in 1832, the Theatre Royal Sydney has been transformed and now has 1,200 seats. None is more than 23 metres from the stage.

Sir Howard Panter, joint chief executive of the Trafalgar Entertainment Group, said, “when we set our eyes on Theatre Royal Sydney we were committed to restoring it back to all its glory.

“Sydney has always been a landmark destination globally, and now it has a landmark to visit and see the best of world-class theatre.”

The theatre will reopen on Thursday 2 December with the first international production outside Broadway of Alanis Morrissette’s Jagged Little Pill. It will be followed by Conor McPherson’s Girl from the North Country in January 2022 and An American in Paris, with songs by George and Ira Gershwin, in April 2022.

Trafalgar Entertainment was co-founded by Sir Howard Panter and Dame Rosemary Squire in 2017. It is also home to Trafalgar Theatre Productions, Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, live-streaming distributor Trafalgar Leasing, Stagecoach Performing Arts and ticket agency London Theatre Direct.
