Birmingham REP and the youth homelessness charity St Basil’s are asking people to donate to a new training experience for young people.

Beginning Backstage will offer some of the vulnerable young people supported by the charity an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop skills to boost their future employment prospects.

Alex Summers, director of learning and participation at the REP, said, “Beginning Backstage is a potentially life-changing opportunity. The REP hopes it will raise participants’ aspirations and lead to other opportunities such as further training or employment. But it will happen only if enough people are generous and donate.”

The REP is taking part in a national fundraising scheme, the Big Give Christmas Challenge, and aims to raise £5,100. All donations to the Big Give web site between 3 and 10 December will be doubled.

Jean Templeton, chief executive of St Basil’s, added, “we’re excited about working with the REP on developing Beginning Backstage which will engage our young people, allowing them to feel valued and cared for.

“It takes a whole city to bring up a young person so please donate to the Big Give Christmas Challenge.”
