Derby Theatre is one of three venues which have got together to offer support for a new piece of theatre that will be performed in small spaces.

The theatre has joined ARC Stockton and The Bike Shed Theatre in Exeter to set up Transit 2016, which will provide resources for a “mid-career artist” or a company to develop work that is “ambitious in size and content”.

By “mid-career”, the theatres mean an artist or company with more than five years’ experience of making work professionally, staging and touring a number of productions.

By new work, the venues mean “devised work or new writing, or work that explores the boundaries of theatrical form”.

Transit 2016 is “a great opportunity to build new relationships with venues across three UK regions and offers companies a package of in-kind resources including rehearsal space as well as the opportunity to perform the show in all three venues”.

The theatres will also offer mentoring as well as marketing, audience development, technical, box office and PR advice.

Any UK-based artist or company with more than five years’ experience can apply for Transit 2016. All the venues are particularly interested in applications from disabled artists, older artists or those returning to work after a career break.

Artists and companies should send their proposals to [email protected] by 10AM on Monday 11 January 2016. They are asked to email a proposal which includes a biography of the company/artist, reviews of previous shows, details of a show they would like to develop, why it is ambitious in its size and content, how it will be funded and how they think they could benefit from Transit 2016.

Interviews for shortlisted companies will be held in Derby on Wednesday 20 January 2016. Further information is available at the Derby Theatre web site.
