Two Midlands theatres are hoping to be successful in the UK Theatre Awards 2024 after being nominated in three categories.
Matt Doyle has been nominated for best performance in a musical for his portrayal of Frank Sinatra in Joe DiPietro’s Sinatra the Musical, produced by Birmingham Rep in association with Universal Music Group Theatrical and Frank Sinatra Enterprises.
After receiving the nomination, Doyle said he was “floored and honoured to have received this nomination. Sinatra the Musical is on my mind every day. I strive to continue to honour Frank's immense legacy with the support and guidance of the incredible Tina Sinatra.”
Michael Taylor has been nominated for best design for his set on Bhangra Nation, which had a book by Rehana Lew Mirza and Mike Lew and music and lyrics by Sam Willmott.
Meanwhile, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre has received a nomination for best new play for Swim, Aunty, Swim! by Siana Bangura, which was directed by Birmingham Rep’s deputy artistic director Madeleine Kludje.
